Why I Fell in Love with Photography: My Story

Photography initially began as a personal endeavor to enhance my mental well-being; however, it quickly evolved into a profound passion and a dedicated creative pursuit. I acquired my first camera, a Nikon D3500, in 2019, shortly before the onset of the global pandemic. Presently, I utilize the advanced Nikon Z8 and Z9 models, complemented by an array of high-quality Nikon lenses. Nonetheless, I continue to embrace spontaneity by occasionally capturing moments with my smartphone during casual outings.

Over the years, I have had the honor of presenting my work in a range of prestigious exhibitions nationwide, including "Photographing the High Street," Punch Records, Westside BID, and the Birmingham We Are Calendar, among others.

Throughout my professional career, I have had the privilege of receiving several prestigious awards for my photography, which has been an immensely rewarding experience.

My passion for photography was instilled during my childhood, beginning with the use of disposable cameras and early digital models that required in-store development. Holding a camera has always been an intuitive and seamless experience for me..

Over the years, I have meticulously honed my expertise by undertaking comprehensive photography courses through esteemed institutions such as The Prince’s Trust (now The King’s Trust), Birmingham Adult Education Service, and Gallery 37.I also have experience with editing software, including Adobe Lightroom, Microsoft applications, and Apple Mac systems, which help me bring my creative vision to life.

My grandad was a passionate train spotter in the 1940s and captured stunning photographs using a Canon AV-1, an old-style film camera. Photography has been a part of my family’s story for generations, and it has also helped me connect with incredible people both within and beyond the photography community. Being autistic, photography allows me to share the world through my unique perspective—capturing moments and details that others might overlook, presenting a view that truly stands out.

Mental health, wellbeing, and raising awareness about different disabilities are causes close to my heart. I firmly believe in the power of photography to inspire, heal, and positively impact lives in countless ways.

This passion drives me to work with charities and nonprofit organizations across the West Midlands. I love building meaningful relationships, understanding their vital contributions to the community, and helping them achieve their goals while pursuing my own. Supporting their mission to create positive change for people of all ages and backgrounds is something I deeply value.

In my free time, I enjoy joining photography meet-up groups around Birmingham, watching inspiring documentaries, and continuously improving my skills through YouTube and other platforms. Photography remains not just a hobby, but a lifelong journey of growth and connection.
